Play with Zinedine Zidane — Card, Strategy & Stats

Zinedine Zidane is the greatest French footballer of all time and one of the most influential midfielders in football history. On Vikto, you can draft him in any match where Real Madrid or France is the chosen team — and find out whether you can outbid an opponent for the privilege of having Zidane in your squad.

Zidane’s career highlights

Three Ballons d’Or. World Cup 1998 winner. Euro 2000 winner. UEFA Champions League winner 2002. The volley in Glasgow against Bayer Leverkusen that won that final remains the most beautiful goal ever scored in a Champions League final. The two headers in the 1998 World Cup final against Brazil that defined a French generation.

His career took him from Cannes to Bordeaux, then to Juventus where he won two Serie A titles, then to Real Madrid for the most expensive transfer in the world at the time. He retired after the 2006 World Cup final — a final he was sent off in, for a headbutt that has become as iconic as anything else in his career.

He went on to manage Real Madrid to three consecutive Champions League titles between 2016 and 2018. Player. Captain. Manager. Few footballers have shaped the game in three eras.

Zidane’s Vikto card

In Vikto, Zidane is rated 97 in France’s national team roster (Icon tier) and 96 in Real Madrid’s club roster (Icon tier). His role is MID — central attacking midfielder, where he played his entire career.

His Vikto rating reflects three pillars: palmarès (Ballons d’Or, World Cup, Champions League), position-normalized impact (chance creation, scoring rate from midfield, leadership), and global iconicity (where he ranks in every “greatest ever” list, his influence on the game’s evolution).

The Icon designation means his card receives gold visual treatment in every match — a recognition that he’s one of the few players who transcends his club and his country.

How to draft Zidane

Zidane appears in two team rosters. To have a chance of drafting him, you need to be in a match where one of these teams is selected:

  • Real Madrid — 12 midfielders in the pool. Zidane is the highest-rated. He’ll appear in roughly 1 in 4 matches based on random draw.
  • France national team — 12 midfielders in the pool. Zidane is again the highest-rated. He’ll appear in roughly 1 in 4 France matches.

When Zidane appears in your match, expect bid wars. A common bidding range for Zidane in competitive Vikto play is $60M to $100M of your $250M starting budget. Overpaying for him is the classic mistake — you’ll win Zidane but lose the remaining five cards because you have nothing left.

Captain Zidane for the multiplier

If you do draft Zidane, naming him captain is rarely a bad call. The captain multiplier amplifies one legend’s score in the duel phase, and Zidane’s 96–97 base rating means even a poor Era Boost still leaves him performing at elite level after the multiplier.

A common reflection across competitive Vikto players is that an Icon-tier card with a strong Era Boost and the captain multiplier is essentially unbeatable in their position duel. The defensive midfielder facing Zidane in those conditions has no realistic path to outscoring him.

When to pass on Zidane

There’s one situation where letting Zidane go cheap is the right play. If you’ve already won an Icon attacker on round one (say Ronaldo R9 or Henry), spending another $80M+ on Zidane leaves you with too little budget for any defender. You’ll win two duels and lose the third — at best a 2-1 victory, but you risk a 1-2 loss if your defender gets a strong Era Boost on the opposing attacker.

The smarter play is to bid low (say $25M) on Zidane and accept losing him if your opponent commits. Save your remaining budget for a mid-tier midfielder and a solid defender.

France vs Real Madrid

Zidane is one of the few legends in Vikto who appears in two rosters with different ratings. In France he’s 97; at Real Madrid he’s 96. The difference reflects that his impact on the French national team — World Cup winner, Euro winner, all-time icon — slightly outweighs his shorter five-year stint at Real Madrid.

Both clubs are worth exploring in depth: see the France legends guide and the Real Madrid legends guide.

Frequently asked questions

Can I customize Zidane’s card?

Card visuals are fixed in Vikto, but the Icon tier already gives Zidane the most premium gold-tier treatment available.

Is Zidane available in any other roster?

Zidane is in France (national team) and Real Madrid (club). His earlier career at Bordeaux and Juventus aren’t in Vikto yet.

Why is Zidane an Icon while Sergio Ramos is “just” a Legend?

Icon status reflects global recognition and “greatest ever” iconicity. Ramos’s 671 Real Madrid games and four Champions League wins are extraordinary, but Zidane’s three Ballons d’Or and World Cup put him in a tier above virtually every other player ever.

Can my opponent bid the same as me?

Yes — in case of a tie, the player with the lower remaining budget wins the tiebreaker.

Is Zidane’s son in any roster?

Théo Zidane and his brothers play professionally but at a level that hasn’t yet earned legend status in Vikto. Family resemblance can only carry a player so far.
