England Legends Game — Charlton, Moore, Lineker, Beckham

England’s football history is built around one defining moment — 1966 — and the generations of players who tried to live up to it. Bobby Moore lifting the World Cup. Bobby Charlton’s thunderous strikes. Geoff Hurst’s hat-trick. Then the 1970 quarterfinal heartbreak. Italia ‘90 and Gascoigne’s tears. The Beckham generation. Gerrard, Lampard, Rooney. And now Kane’s modern era. On Vikto, you draft them across all of it.

Pick England. Bid blind. Build the Three Lions XI worth singing about.

The England icons

Vikto’s Icon designation honors England legends who transcended the national team — players whose status is fixed in football history beyond their international caps alone. Icons receive a +5 base score boost and gold visual treatment.

England’s defining Icons:

  • Bobby Moore — 94 — Captain. The 1966 World Cup winner. The defender who out-thought every opponent he faced. Pelé called him the greatest defender he ever played against. 108 caps. Statue outside Wembley. The moral standard of English football.
  • Bobby Charlton — 91 — 49 international goals — held the record for 45 years. The 1966 World Cup. The 1968 European Cup with Manchester United. Munich survivor. Ballon d’Or 1966. Sir Bobby. The defining English midfielder of any era.

Vote for next Icon

Vikto’s Icon designation belongs to the community. Anyone can vote, anonymously, on which England legend deserves Icon promotion. The legends pulling the most votes are surfaced as Icon candidates for the game.

Should Harry Kane — now England’s all-time top scorer — finally earn Icon status? Should Frank Lampard’s 177 Chelsea goals and 106 caps tip him over the line? Should Ashley Cole’s defensive resume be elevated? The community decides.

How the game works

Pick England in your match. Six legends from the 36-strong pool are drawn at random and visible up front. You and your opponent each have $250M to spread across the six cards.

Bids are blind. Sealed offers, simultaneous reveal. Highest wins the legend.

For England, the era spread is the most interesting strategic question. You might draw Stanley Matthews from the 1940s alongside Harry Kane from the 2020s. The Era Boost coefficient (hidden until duel time) means even a 84-rated Owen can outscore a 91-rated Charlton on a good day. Best of three duels wins.

The 1966 squad — Moore, Charlton, Hurst, Peters, Stiles, Ray Wilson, Jack Charlton — all appear in the pool. Drafting a true 1966 lineup across matches is achievable for committed players.

Frequently asked questions

Why is Bobby Moore the highest-rated defender at 94?

Moore’s pre-eminence comes from a combination of trophy resume (1966 World Cup as captain), positional intelligence (reading the game at a level few defenders ever matched), and durability (108 caps). No English defender since has surpassed his career consistency.

Where is Jordan Pickford or any goalkeeper?

Vikto doesn’t have a goalkeeper position. The DEF category covers outfield defenders only. Pickford, Banks, Shilton, Seaman — all icons of English football but not part of Vikto’s roster structure.

Why is Kane rated below Bobby Charlton at 89?

Charlton’s combination of international goals (49), the 1966 World Cup, and the 1968 European Cup edges him above Kane’s current resume. If Kane finishes his international career with a major trophy, the rating gap closes.

Where’s Jude Bellingham?

On the shortlist. Vikto adds active players once their international contribution has built a defining body of work. Bellingham’s trajectory after Euro 2024 makes him a strong candidate within the next two seasons.

Are England’s 1990 World Cup squad represented?

Yes. Gascoigne, Lineker, Robson, Wright, Terry Butcher, Stuart Pearce, Peter Beardsley — the spine of Italia ‘90 is in the pool. The 1996 Euros squad is similarly well-represented.

Can I play England vs Germany or Argentina?

Cross-team tournaments are rolling out progressively. The classic rivalries are among the first formats planned.
